IT Project Management


This section describes the project management functions that are available with this product. The information in this section is aimed at users who have Serviceaide Intelligent Service Management administrator or analyst privileges.

This article contains the following topics:

Intelligent Service Management lets you combine your IT Service Management (ITSM) and IT Project Management (ITPM) processes together. As a result, you can use your ITSM processes to manage your projects. Similarly, you can use your project management processes to manage your IT services.

Example:

Consider a scenario where your organization wants to upgrade all of the desktop computers in your organization to the latest version. You can create a change request in Intelligent Service Management to initiate this change. The IT team responsible for the upgrade can create a project in Intelligent Service Management to manage the upgrade process, which is based on your change request. The team uses this project to plan and execute the upgrade process. In the process, your organization can use its ITSM and ITPM processes to execute the change request.


The Project Center

The IT Project Management functionality is provided through the Project Center workspace in Intelligent Service Management. For an overview of this workspace, see Project Center Workspace.

You use the Project Center workspace to perform the following tasks:

The ITPM functionality is also integrated with the Ticket Center and Configuration Management workspaces. This integration helps you relate tickets and CIs to relevant projects, and track their dependencies. For more information about how to use ITPM features, see the following topics:

Enable IT Project Management

You can enable or disable the Project Management functionality for a particular slice by setting up an appropriate value for the slice configuration parameter named ENABLE_IT_PROJECT_MANAGEMENT. With this parameter enabled, project owners and team members can use the IT Project Management functionality.

Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the application as an administrator.
  2. Navigate to MANAGE> ADMINISTRATION> Tools> Configuration Parameters
  3. From the Parameter Name column, select the parameter ENABLE_IT_PROJECT_MANAGEMENT.
    Note: Click the Parameter Name heading in the table to sort the list of Parameter Names. Then click the Next button to browse to the ENABLE_IT_PROJECT_MANAGEMENT parameter. You can also use the search box to locate the parameter.
  4. Click Yes in the Parameter Value section.
    Note: The default value of this parameter is Yes. To disable the project management feature, set this parameter to No.
  5. Click Apply Changes.
