The Advanced Reporting module users are classified into the following personas:
- Content creators: Have access to create and edit Reports, Dashboards, and Ad Hoc views. The content creators must be assigned specific advanced reporting roles to create and edit reports. For more information, see Assign Roles.
- Content users: Have access to use Reports, Dashboards, and Ad Hoc views. An administrator provides permissions to each user to access the content. For more information, see Assign Permissions.
Advance Reports are only available in the CSM Service Management edition. This feature is not available in the CSM Service Desk edition.
Assign Roles
Users require special privileges to use the advanced reporting module. You must know the users who work with Advanced Reports in your environment and must assign the necessary Roles.
Note: To assign roles to the users, see Create and Manage Roles. You must have the Administrator privileges to assign these roles.
The application includes predefined roles for specific tasks in this module. These roles are:
Advanced Reporting Admin
Performs all the tasks in the Advanced Reporting module such as Domain designer, Ad Hoc designer, and Report designer. This role can access all the content in Advanced Reporting including predefined reports and dashboards. The Advanced Reporting Admin performs the following tasks:
- Create, view, and delete reports
- Schedule reports
- Create, edit, and delete Ad Hoc views
- Create, edit, and delete dashboards
- Synchronize custom fields to domains
Domain Designer
Allows the management of domains and the ability to add custom attributes for tickets and configuration items to domains. This role can access the content that is in the Shared folder only. Contact the application administrator to get access to the content that is in not in the Shared folder. The Domain designer performs the following tasks:
Dashboard Designer
Allows creating and editing of dashboards that are created using existing reports. This role can access the content that is in the Shared folder only. Contact the application administrator to get access to the content that is in not in the Shared folder. The Dashboard designer performs the following tasks:
Adhoc Designer
Allows creating and editing of Ad Hoc views using the existing domains. This role can access the content that is in the Shared folder only. Contact the application administrator to get access to the content that is in not in the Shared folder. The Ad Hoc designer performs the following tasks:
Report Designer
Allows creating and editing of advanced reports that are created using Ad Hoc views. This role can access the content that is in the Shared folder only. Contact the application administrator to get access to the content that is in not in the Shared folder. The Report designer performs the following tasks:
Assign Permissions
As an administrator, you can assign permissions to manage Reports, Dashboards, and Ad Hoc views to analyst roles.
For example, you can provide access to the reports that are specific to KB articles to a KB analyst, using the Advanced Reports Permissions option. The KB Analyst can then monitor and manage the KB article reports.
Follow these steps
- Log in to CSM and navigate to MANAGE, ADMINISTRATION, Tools, Navigation Menu.
- Assign the Advanced Reporting permissions to the analysts to grant access to the Advanced Reporting module.

- Provide the following information in the Advanced Reports Permissions tab:
- Analyst role that you want to grant permissions.
- Location of the content that you want to assign in Shared or Cloud SM folder.
- Move the necessary Reports, Dashboards, and Ad Hoc views from left pane to the right pane using the right arrow.
- Click Save.
